This vintage pendant handcrafted out of a thick and solid 14k brutalist style yellow gold is bezel set with an ancient Roman sestertius coin. The coin was crafted out of bronze and minted around 156-158 A.D and is from the reign of Antoninus Pius a Roman emperor from 138-161 A.D. the front of the coin features his bust while the back features Annona (the divine personification of grain supply to the city of Rome) holding ears of grain and a cornucopiae. These coins served as political propaganda to reassure the public of a stable and abundant grain supply for the city of Rome. A thick and heavyweight the entire piece weighs in at 13.5g and measures around 1.5” x 1.25”. What’s great about this pendant is it can be worn either way, with any side facing out, which is unlike most coins as the reverse side is always upside down.
