Made by prominent Baltimore, Md jeweler Oscar Caplan And Sons (1905-1990’s) is this amazing fully solid 14k yellow gold sea life brutalist style barnacle ring made for part of their “Chesapeake Bay Collection” back in the 1960’s-70’s. After his father Oscar died, Marvin Caplan (his son) took over the business and really flourished designing for presidents and Queen Elizabeth he really catapulted and brought the jewelers to a world renowned name. While having an island home on the Chesapeake during the 1960’s he was inspired to do a sea life collection and this ring is part of that. Channeling the looks of one big barnacle crafted in a brutalist style this heavyweight 23.6g signet style ring is encrusted with a seahorse and crab crustaceans on the thick side shanks as well as fish, shells, a bird, and turtle on the front. Fitting a size:7 the backing is fully solid and despite its heavy duty stature this ring is very comfortable to wear as it sits flush to the hand and measures about 19mm x 19mm thick and wide.
