Museum quality, extremely rare, and one of the best signets you can hope to ever find. Crafted right around the mid to late 1800’s out of a solid and thick 14k yellow gold with amazing hand chased engraving around the top sides and shank this Victorian intaglio style signet ring was popular amongst those in the high standing society of Europe and the Americas. Depicted in reverse intaglio style in a beautiful and large Carnelian stone with a pigeon carrying a letter and the word “dispatch” above, I only wish I could have the history of what this ring truly represented and meant to the original owner and who they really were. Used primarily during wartime homing pigeons were trained to carry messages. For example in 1870-71 during the Franco Prussian war Paris was under siege and utilized this “pigeon post” method to relay messages in and out of the locked down city. A heavy and chunky build at 14.17g and a size 7-7.5 (on the mandrel it sits at the 7 mark but as you see in picture #21 due to the stone it has room on the sides to give more room). This should be priced at double the price of what I’m charging for it a statement piece at a great deal for an amazing piece of history that will be passed down for generations to come. *SHOWN IN PICTURE #18 IS A STAMP FROM THE 1880’s WITH SIMILAR DEPICTION*
