Antique 18k/Ruby Cannatille Cross Pendant

Beautiful antique Cannatille 18k yellow gold cross pendant weighing just under 6 grams with a .15ct genuine hand transitional cut round solitaire ruby. Cannatille work is a close relative of filigree, it features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets, utilizing twisted strands of gold wire wound into elaborate designs. Jewelry with cannetille was very popular in the 1820’s and 1830’s, with motifs including tendrils, scrolls, coils, beehives and spider web rosettes. Old handmade crosses like these don’t pop up often and when they do they go for at least triple the price you see here. The cross measures approximately 1.5” wide by 2” long with a bail opening of about 4mm. *necklace is not included*
